Jimmy Hager as “Ben”
Jimmy Hager is a professional screenwriter and actor living in Columbia, SC. He spent his formative years in Charleston where he became an accomplished sax player. Jimmy toured with many prolific musical talents, including Janis Joplin, Chicago, Santana and the Allman Brothers. He is also an accomplished artist in faux finish painting and as a writer of fictional short stories. Jimmy got his start in theatre in the late 90s when he was cast as Atticus Finch in the theatrical version of To Kill a Mockingbird. That performance led to leading roles in over 30 stage productions and numerous TV commercials and print ads. Jimmy brings a depth of experience and range to the set of In Search of Liberty.
Bobby Deen as David Ellis, Photographer
Bobby Deen is a restaurateur, television chef, author and popular TV personality appearing on the Food Network and Cooking Channel. He earned rave reviews with appearances on not only his mother’s cooking show but others such as “Road Tasted” (with brother Jaime), “Junk Food Flip,” and “Not My Mama’s Meals.” In addition to hosting fun-filled cooking shows, Bobby helps his mother, TV chef and Savannah native, Paula Deen, along with his brother, Jaimie, operate the famous southern restaurant, The Lady & Sons in Savannah. Bobby is taking on his first movie role for In Search of Liberty.
Karen Boles as Lori Ellis, Publisher of The Foothill Ledger
Karen Boles is a busy working actress performing in theatre, television, film, modeling, print and commercial voiceover and spokesperson assignments. She has appeared in a number of TV series and documentaries made for television and short video projects. In addition to In Search of Liberty, Karen is known for appearing in the television series Sleepy Hollow (2013) and Complications (2015).
Kayla Huth as Jennifer Ellis, 15-year old daughter
Kayla Huth is a talented actress with a growing resume of acting assignments. She can also sing, play piano and compete as an athlete. She has performed in commercials, film and most recently as the television host of “Rays Rookies” for the Tampa Bay Rays Baseball team.
Tyler Huth as Ryan Ellis, 12-year old son
Tyler Huth is quickly becoming a respected young actor with a number of TV series, print and commercial projects to his credit, as well as taking on a principal role in five films. A versatile performer, he can take on a Southern or British accent and do improv. He combines his passion for acting with outside interests like aviation, golf, creating videos, and other activities that include spending time with family and friends.
Stella Rylee as Lucy Ellis, 3-year old daughter
Stella Rylee is an adorable three-year old with a bright future! As the youngest member of the cast, this is her first movie role. Stella lights up the room and adds an enthusiasm to all her scenes that will connect with viewers of all ages.
Simone Griffeth as Charlene Murray, Lori’s mother, owner of Charlene’s Book Nook
Simone Griffeth has an extensive acting resume, starring in commercials, television and film. She has performed in guest roles on popular television series such as The Golden Girls, Magnum, P.I., Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch among others. On the big screen, she starred in many films, from the comedy cult classic Death Race 2000 (1975) with Sylvester Stallone and David Carradine to the crime thriller Hot Target (1985) and the historical drama, Savannah (2013). Simone currently teaches acting and works alongside her husband, Wayne McDonald, in the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, real estate market.
Claudia Deen as Amanda, Assistant Editor of The Foothill Ledger, from South America
Claudia Deen is taking on her first movie role for In Search of Liberty. She is an accomplished athlete, certified health coach and founder of The Trendy Smoothie in Savannah, Georgia. She has a passion for fitness, accomplishing a brown belt in karate, thirteen half-marathons (13.1 mi), seven marathons (26.2 mi) and a two-time Ironman (70.3 mi) finisher. Claudia moved from a career in advertising to becoming an advocate for fitness and healthy eating. She is an active blogger and can be found on social media inspiring others to achieve a healthier lifestyle. In 2013, Claudia and Bobby Deen were married.
Madison Rising (Rio Hiett, Sam Fishman, Tom DiPietro and AJ Larsen) The band appears as themselves and are billed as the most patriotic rock-n-roll band in America. They bring their talents and two very inspiring songs to the movie, including their rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner.” Their performance of our national anthem was also included on the soundtrack for Dinesh D’Souza’s 2014 documentary film America: Imagine the World Without Her.
